Cage-free Systems

Chickens in a field

Cage free farming systems are husbandry systems that provide the minimum standard of proper animal welfare practices. The general need for better sustainable animal welfare practices demands extensive research into various farming systems such as cage free. This is important to address growing public demand for better animal welfare products.

Our aim is to conduct translational research into cage free farming systems in Africa, taking into consideration the continent’s climate, resources and culture. This will address potential challenges in the adoption and practice of better welfare systems in African countries while improving general knowledge on animal welfare.
